Here’s why it’s never too late to start over

It’s never too late to hit the pause button. Breathe. Then begin again. So that you can go even further. Here’s one such story of an athlete from the Philippines.

1. There is no rewind button, but you can always restart
At 41, Marlon Tindoc is the oldest athlete with Special Olympics Philippines. He had no idea about powerlifting. However, his love for sports made him change his course and take up the sport.

2. Never be afraid to try new things
Marlon started training and found the confidence to try an array of different sports like bocce, bowling, basketball, table-tennis and football. Due to the support of his coaches, he gained confidence and became more independent. Trying out so many sports also eventually helped him identify what he liked and what he did not.

3. Nurture people around you on your path to self-discovery
He has been volunteering as an assistant coach to train younger athletes and is an active advocate for inclusion in the Philippines. He is also trained in public speaking and has shared his knowledge of health and nutrition with families of people with intellectual disabilities at various events.

4. Never lose heart
“If I can, at the age of 41, transform my mind and body to master a challenging sport like powerlifting, I believe all of us are capable of change and transformation.” –  Marlon Tindoc
