The Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year. The festival signals the beginning of spring, and the start of a new year in the lunar calendar.
It is a time for celebration, joy, and reflection. Every Lunar New Year, friends and families get together and exchange red envelopes. These red packets of money symbolize blessings of happiness and good luck.
This year, we urge you to take a moment and share a red packet with people with intellectual disabilities (ID) across the Asia Pacific region. Nearly 200 million people with ID around the world are denied basic healthcare, education, and employment. Many of them face a lifetime of isolation, exclusion, and low expectations. Their norm is one of the unequal opportunities.
When the global pandemic sent the world into lockdown, you came forward to change the norm of these athletes through the #MyNormal campaign. This time, we ask you to make them a part of your celebrations. Let us come together to embrace a new way of life – one of acceptance, respect and inclusion.
As you prepare your red packets for your friends and family, we urge you to send a virtual red packet to our athletes with intellectual disabilities, to spread equality to those most deprived of it.
Your donation can make the difference between providing someone the opportunity to lead a life of inclusion and empowerment, and one of desolation. A simple gift can help fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams.
